Elektra (Love Hurts)

Elektra

Love Hurts

by Phil Perich for the True Believers Blog

Last year when Daredevil season one dropped I devoted a week of this blog to some of Daredevil’s greatest moments.  Since season two dropped 3 days ago with the added bonus of Elektra and the Punisher, I figured this was a good time to focus on Elektra, an important figure in the life of Matt Murdock.

  1. Daredevil #168 (January 1981)

Created by Frank Miller, this issue was Elektra’s first appearance.  Originally intended as a one time, filler issue character, Elektra proved so popular she became an ongoing character. Elektra was an assassin working for the Kingpin.

2. Daredevil #181 (April 1982)

This is still one of the most popular issues of Daredevil to date.  Bullseye, maybe the most dangerous of Daredevil’s enemies, kills Elektra to take her place as the Kingpin’s top assassin and hurt Daredevil.

3. Daredevil #190 (January 1983)

It was a race against time when the evil ninja clan the Hand attempted to resurrect Elektra and make her one of their dark warriors.  Daredevil, with the help of Hand’s enemies the Chaste, would save Elektra and give her life again.  It would be many years before Daredevil would see his former love again.

4. Daredevil #324 (January 1994)

Years later Elektra would return to Matt Murdock to help him defeat the Hand once again before they created a new, unstoppable warrior infused with Elektra’s dark side.  Elektra would sacrifice the peace she found to stop the Hand by taking back her inner darkness.  After a few weeks, Elektra left Daredevil’s company and spent some time with the X-Men’s Wolverine.

5. New Avengers #31 (June 2007)

Elektra is a pivotal player in the Marvel Universe.  My proof? During the Secret Invasion storyline when the alien Skrull race attempted to take control of Earth by replacing various heroes, the first Skrull revealed was Pagon who had taken the form of Elektra to lead and use the Hand ninja clan!

While Elektra has been portrayed in live action before by Jennifer Garner, I don't believe the character has been done justice until recently in the Netflix Daredevil series where she isportrayed brilliantly by actress Elodie Yung!

So, what do you think? Share your thoughts with me about this character in any of her various forms!
