This weekend, Otherworld Theatre Company of Chicago will debut its third “Epishow” in an ongoing series parodying the Anime classic, Sailor Moon.  Going into the first Epishow, I knew nearly nothing about Sailor Moon save that it’s main character is a schoolgirl with some sort of power and that the source material is extremely popular within the geek community.  This did not hinder my experience in the slightest.  What I found was a hilarious, engaging, and thoroughly entertaining night of music and comedy.  I loved everything about this show, which was somewhat of a surprise since this isn’t the type of theater I prefer to seek out.  There will be five installments in total covering the first season of the animated series.  This stage version was created and directed by award winning director Tiffany Keane Schafer with music by Whirlwynd.  The acting is genuine and fun.  Dani Mohrbach plays Sailor Moon, a part she appears born to play.  She leads a cast that is truly a delight to watch.  Although every actor involved deserves praise, standouts include Gaby Fernandez as Tuxedo Mask, Carrie Sampana as Luna, Grace DeSant as Queen Beryl, and Justin Fill as Nephrite.  I waited for each of these characters to appear and was never disappointed.  The music is really good too and well done.  I laughed a lot during this show.  I can’t recommend it enough.  Be aware however there are only two performances of the third Epishow so get your tickets right away or you will miss an opportunity to see something truly unique and special.
