New DARK PHOENIX Trailer Teases the X-Men's Last Stand

Start planning your drinking game for every time Cyclops shouts "Jean!"

20th Century Fox has released a new trailer for Dark Phoenix, their final X-Men film before the movie rights move to Disney/Marvel Studios.  In the film, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) is nearly killed during a space mission when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force.  Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable.  Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain.  With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together.  Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite -- not only to save Jean's soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

The two-minute, 20-second trailer opens with Jean sitting and crying in an alley as rain pours down upon her.  Visibly upset and shaken, Jean asks the cosmic force inside her, "Why did you make me do that?"

We cut to what presumably happened, with the various X-Men confronting Jean in a small neighborhood.  "Look at me," says Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) to Jean.  "Focus on my voice.  I'm not giving up on you, Jean."

Cutting back to the alley, Jean tells the Phoenix force, "She was my friend."

Back to the neighborhood scene, Mystique continues in a reassuring tone, "You're my family, Jean.  No matter what."

"Stop...Stop...Stop..." mutters Jean, clutching her head as the edges of her face crack with lines of energy.  Bellowing a final "STOP!!!", she sends Mystique flying, hinting that Jean murdered her after that moment.

We then see Jessica Chastain's white-haired, still-unnamed character trying to manipulate Jean.  "Look," she says, altering the room around her.  "You're special, Jean.  And if you stop fighting that force inside you, if you embrace it, you will possess the very power of a god."

Next, we see the X-Men aboard their ship in Earth's orbit, watching as a NASA space shuttle is swallowed up by a whirlpool of cosmic force.  Jean, inside the shuttle, screams and appears to be consumed by the cosmic energy until it's drawn inside her.

Back to the neighborhood, Professor X/Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) look on in horror at whatever Jean did to Mystique.

We cut to a rainy funeral scene, presumably Mystique's, with Beast (Nicholas Hoult) looking down and understandably sad.

Inside Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, we see a tense standoff with Xavier, Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Jean, with Xavier remarking, "She'll kill us all."  Jean has Magento in her telekinetic grasp and starts crushing his metal helmet tightly around his face.

"Tell me how we fix this, Charles," Cyclops asks in a separate scene inside Cerebro.  "Tell me what to do!"

"I don't know what to do!" Xavier shouts back.

Next, we see Jessica Chastain's character on a rooftop at night, saying in a voiceover, "What they don't understand, they fear."  Cutting to the conversation she's having with Jean, Chastain's character says, "And what they fear..."

"They seek to destroy," finishes Jean.

Back to the neighborhood sequence, we see Quicksilver (Evan Peters) running at super-speed across flying debris in mid-air towards Jean, then cut to a scene of a human-looking Beast having a drink after the funeral and telling Xavier, "This is your fault, Charles."

"I tried to protect her," Xavier remarks in a voiceover.

"I'm scared," Jean says in another scene.  "And when I lose control, bad things happen to people I love."

"The girl dies," remarks Magneto in a different scene.

"She's still Jean," Cyclops says in a post-funeral scene.  "We can still help her."

And in another scene, we see Magneto using his powers of magnetism to levitate and fire several rifles at what may be Chastain's character.  A voiceover from Storm (Alexandra Shipp) remarks, "Sometimes, you want to believe people are something that they are not.  By the time you realize who they are, it's too late."

In the trailer's final scene, we see Professor X, Magneto and the X-Men held captive with power-cancelling collars aboard a train car overseen by armed guards.  Hearing a groan of metal, Magneto remarks, "She's coming."

The guards aim their weapons towards the main door, which buckles, causing the guards to open fire.  Outside, we see the train twisting around and coming off the track, levitating into the air as Jean controls it from above.

LEGION Casts Harry Lloyd as Professor X, Stephanie Corneliussen as Gabrielle Haller

David Haller has finally found his parents.

The official Legion Twitter account has revealed that the upcoming third and final season of the FX series, based on the Marvel Comics character, has cast Harry Lloyd as Professor X/ Charles Xavier and Stephanie Corneliussen as Gabrielle Haller.  Both characters are the parents of Legion/David Haller, played by Dan Stevens.

Lloyd, 35, is an English actor best known as Viserys Targaryen on the HBO series Game of Thrones and as Jeremy Baines in the Doctor Who two-parter "Human Nature/The Family of Blood".  In addition, he's played Will Scarlet in the 2006 Robin Hood TV series, and has appeared in episodes of Counterpart, Wolf Hall, Manhattan, Heroes and Villains, and The Bill.  His films include The Wife, The Theory of Everything, The Iron Lady, Jane Eyre, and Narcopolis.

Corneliussen, 31, is a Danish actress best known as Joanna Wellick on the USA series Mr. Robot.  In addition, she's played Valentina Vostok on the CW series Legends of Tomorrow and appeared in the movie Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.  Her other television appearances include episodes of Deception, The Exes, Bad Judge, and Royal Pains.

Created in 1963 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Professor X first appeared in The X-Men (vol.1) #1 as Professor Charles Xavier, the son of a wealthy nuclear scientist who developed powerful telepathic mutant abilities after his mother remarried following the death of his father in an accident.  Earning a Professorship in genetics and other science fields, Xavier began traveling around the world as an adventurer after leaving the army.  In Cairo, he met a young girl named Ororo Munroe (later known as Storm), who was a pickpocket, and the Shadow King, a powerful mutant who posed as Egyptian crime lord Amahl Farouk.  Xavier defeated the Shadow King, barely escaping with his life.  This encounter led to Xavier's decision to devote his life to protecting humanity from evil mutants and safeguarding innocent mutants from human oppression.  To that end, he founded Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and the mutant superhero team known as The X-Men.

Lloyd will the third actor to portray Professor X in live action, after Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy in various X-Men films.  The character also appeared in various animated projects, including X-Men: The Animated Series (voiced by Cedric Smith), X-Men: Evolution (voiced by David Kaye), and Wolverine and the X-Men (voiced by Jim Ward).

Gabrielle Haller was created in 1982 by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum, first appearing in The Uncanny X-Men (vol.1) #161 as a woman driven into a catatonic coma by the trauma she experienced.  At a clinic in Haifa, Israel, Xavier used his mental powers to break her out of her catatonia and the two fell in love while he saw to her recovery for weeks, with the help of hospital volunteer and their mutual friend, Magnus (the future Magneto).  Over some time, the two amicably ended their relationship.  Soon after, Charles left Israel, unaware that Gabrielle was pregnant with his child.  Years later, Gabrielle became the Israeli ambassador to Great Britain, living in Paris with her young son, David.  During a terrorist attack at her home claiming the life of David's stepfather, Daniel Shomron, David's mutant powers activated, ending with him killing the terrorists and being traumatized in the process.  Haller turned to Dr. Moira MacTaggert, an associate and former lover of Xavier's, for help with David, who suffered from dissociative identity disorder and powerful psionic mutant abilities.  MacTaggert was forced to turn to Xavier for his assistance, which ultimately led to the revelation that he is David's father.

Legion will return for Season 3 on FX sometime this June.

THE GIFTED Casts Grace Byers as The Hellfire Club's Reeva Payge

The Hellfire Club's Inner Circle is growing.

Marvel has announced that the Fox series The Gifted, based on Marvel Comics' X-Men properties, has cast Grace Byers as Reeva Payge, a mutant who becomes the Black Queen of The Hellfire Club's Inner Circle.

According to the announcement, Reeva is described as "a smart, charming, authoritative, elegant, beautiful woman who is ruthless in her efforts to fight for her people.  She leads an elite band of followers and has a soft spot for her new recruits, but is still capable of extreme violence in defense of her vision."

In addition, Reeva "will be teaming up with Polaris (Emma Dumont), Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White) and the Frost sisters (Skyler Samuels) in the Inner Circle, following the huge turn of events that occurred at the end of Season 1."

Byers, 33, is best known as Anika Calhoun on the Fox music industry drama Empire.  She also appeared as Kate in the 2018 movie Bent.

Created in 1994 by Ian Edginton and Gene Ha, Reeva Payge first appeared in X-Men (vol.2) Annual #3 as a mutant with the ability to generate a high note from her vocal cords that directly affects the brain's neurochemistry, painfully distorting perceptions of reality, causing them to experience dizziness and hallucinations.  The note is beyond a normal human's ability to detect sound.

When Shinobi Shaw, son of Hellfire Club founding member Sebastian Shaw, took over the New York chapter of The Hellfire Club, he formed his own Inner Circle after Archangel and Sunspot declined.  Reeva was designated as the Inner Circle's Black Queen, along with Shaw as Black King, Benazir Kaur as White Queen, and Benedict Kine as White King.

This Inner Circle was presented to Ororo Monroe, better known as Storm, when Shinobi Shaw attempted to recruit her as well.  When Storm tried to resist Shaw, she was drugged and kidnapped.  The X-Men arrived as Shaw attempted to inject her with more drugs, and fought Reeva and the new Hellfire Club until Storm cornered Shaw.  She asked him if he was willing to die for his beliefs, but he wasn't and let her leave.  Shinobi Shaw's actions as Black King were limited to failed attempts at extending his influence and monitoring the London branch of the Club, leading to Sebastian Shaw retaking control.

The Gifted is expected to return to Fox for Season 2 sometime in Fall 2018.

LEGION Season 2 Full Trailer Hints at War with The Shadow King

What's the last thing you remember?

After several teasers, FX has released the first full trailer for the second season of Legion, based on the Marvel Comics character.  The 90-second trailer teases a time jump and the upcoming war against Season 1 Big Bad, the Shadow King.

The trailer opens with memory artist Ptonomy Wallace (Jeremie Harris) asking David Haller (Dan Stevens), "What's the last thing you remember?"  We see David waking in a field somewhere, followed by a number of strange fleeting images.

"Where you been?" asks Sydney "Syd" Barrett (Rachel Keller), David's mutant girlfriend as we see a quick replay of the Season 1 cliffhanger where David was transported inside a small, floating orb device and kidnapped by a person, or persons, unknown.

We see fleeting images of David in some form of monastery meditating and the burned visage of David's former interrogator Clark (Hamish Linklater).

"I remember...trees," David replies.  "And...dancing?"  Suddenly, we see Oliver Bird (Jemaine Clement), Melanie Bird's mutant husband and one of the founders of Summerland, participating in an elaborate dubstep dance number with David and Lenny Busker (Aubrey Plaza).

"We'll talk later," says Ptonomy.  "Okay," nods David.

"After you left," Ptonomy says to David in a different scene, "we joined Division 3, started working together to fight our real enemy..."

"The Shadow King," finishes David as we glimpse the true face of Amahl Farouk, the Shadow King (Navid Negahban).

Syd asks, "You think he's infecting people somehow?"

"We all die eventually," remarks Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), David's psychiatric therapist.  "The real tragedy is forgetting to live."

Syd warns "It's coming" as we see a strange, oval-shaped coffin being raised.

"What's coming?" asks David as we see the coffin being opened, revealing the Shadow King inside.

Fleeting images of the previous Shadow King (Aubrey Plaza) tormenting Cary Loudermilk (Bill Irwin) and bizarre women in black leotards with page boy haircuts and mustaches follow, as the mustached women tell David, "The end of everything.  Do not fail."

"She lives in the future you're going to destroy," remarks the Shadow King to David, "and when you do, she will cease to exist."

David tells Syd he loves her and Syd replies, "Love...isn't gonna save us."

More images follow, this time of the Shadow King (Plaza) and Oliver lounging in a swimming pool side by side, the Shadow King (Plaza) handcuffed in the back of a truck with heavily armored police or soldiers, and David lying in the center of a floor marked with a large black number 6.

"You still trust him?" asks Ptonomy.

"He's my man," replies Syd confidently as we end with a close-up smirk from David.

Tim Miller & Brian Bendis Developing KITTY PRYDE X-Men Spinoff Movie

It sounds like X-Men's Kitty Pryde has a demon she's going to face.

The Hollywood Reporter has word that Deadpool director Tim Miller and comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis are developing an X-Men spinoff film focusing on the popular mutant superhero Kitty Pryde.

The project, which is being called 143, which is presumably a reference to the Marvel comic Uncanny X-Men (vol.1) #143, which featured a Kitty Pryde spotlight story called "Demon", written by Chris Claremont and drawn by John Byrne.

In the story, a variation on the 1979 science fiction horror film Aliena lone otherdimensional demon from a race known as the N'Garai escaped the destruction of an obelisk which was the nexus of the gateway between their world and ours, following a battle between the N'Garai and the mutant superhero team known as the X-Men.  Meanwhile, Kitty was learning how the X-Men's Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird aircraft was operated, until it was time for the other X-Men to go out and celebrate Christmas, leaving Kitty alone in their mansion headquarters.

Left with nothing to do, Kitty decided to work out, using a Danger Room exercise program. However, her work-out was interrupted by the intruder alarm activating in Ororo's room.  Not wanting to disturb the police over what may be something as simple as a fallen branch, Kitty decided to investigate, only to discover the deadly N'Garai demon.  Kitty led the demon on a merry chase throughout the mansion, phasing through walls with it fast on her heels. She eventually took a rail car to the mansion's aircraft hangar, but halfway to the hangar, the demon ruptured the rail, forcing Kitty to travel the rest of the distance on foot.  Weary from exhaustion, Kitty got into the Blackbird, with its turbine engines pointed down the tunnel, the only realistic path for the demon to follow her into the hangar.  At the last second, she ignited the engines, setting the demon on fire but wrecking the Blackbird in the process.  She exited the aircraft, confident that nothing could've survived, when suddenly, a burned claw reached towards her.

The X-Men returned home to a darkened and severely damaged mansion, having encountered police earlier warning them of gruesome murders that had occurred in the area.  They entered cautiously, only to find Kitty curled up watching TV with a fire, safe and sound.  It turned out that last swipe was the creature's dying attempt to kill Kitty.  It made the supreme effort and it failed.

Created in 1980 by Claremont and Byrne, Kitty Pryde first appeared in X-Men (vol.1) #129 as Katherine "Kitty" Pryde, a teenage girl born in Deerfield, Illinois, to Carmen and Theresa Pryde.  Kitty started to have headaches at age thirteen, signaling the emergence of her mutant powers.  She was approached by both the X-Men's Charles Xavier and the Hellfire Club's White Queen, Emma Frost, both of whom hoped to recruit her for their respective causes.  Kitty was unnerved by Frost, observing that the White Queen looked at her as if she were "something good to eat."  She got along better with Xavier and the three X-Men who escorted him, quickly becoming friends with Storm (Ororo Munroe).  Ororo told Kitty who she really was and about the X-Men, which made the teenager even more enthusiastic about attending Xavier's school.

They, along with Wolverine and Colossus, were attacked by armored mercenaries in the employ of Frost and the Hellfire Club.  The X-Men defeated their assailants, but were subdued by the White Queen's telepathic powers immediately after.  In the confusion, Kitty was separated from the X-Men, but not captured along with them.  She managed to contact Cyclops, Phoenix, and Nightcrawler, and with the help of Dazzler and Kitty, the X-Men rescued their teammates from the Hellfire Club.  Kitty's parents had not heard from her in more than a day, and were angry at Xavier when he finally returned with Kitty in tow.  At first, it seemed like there was no chance of Kitty being allowed to attend the school and join the X-Men, but Phoenix used her considerable telepathic power to erase the memories of Kitty's parents and plant false ones, resulting in a complete shift in their attitude towards Xavier. Kitty was then allowed to enroll at Xavier's school with her parents' blessing, becoming the youngest member of the team.

Assuming the identity of Sprite, Kitty developed a number of close relationships with others at the school and in the X-Men.  She developed a crush on Colossus and became close friends with his little sister Illyana Rasputin.  Initially uneasy around Nightcrawler and other mutants with physical deformities, Kitty finally overcame her fears and became close friends with him.  Kitty also befriended Lockheed, a highly intelligent alien resembling a dragon, who followed her home after a mission in outer space.  During the 1984 Kitty Pryde and Wolverine miniseries, Kitty was possessed by the demon ninja Ogun.  Ogun psychically gave Kitty a virtual lifetime of martial arts training, brainwashing her into becoming a ninja assassin sent to attack Wolverine.  Kitty was able to resist Ogun's influence with Wolverine's help, and the two formed a strong teacher/student bond, which helped them in vanquishing Ogun.  Kitty returned to the X-Men, no longer the innocent girl they once knew, and officially adopted the codename Shadowcat.

Recently, Kitty returned to Earth and rejoined the X-Men, after serving as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy and being involved in a romantic relationship with Peter Quill, also know as Star-Lord.  Storm announced to Kitty that she was stepping down as leader of the X-Men, due to the guilt she felt for leading the X-Men to war with the Inhumans, and offered Kitty her position.  After touring X-Haven and seeing how much things have changed and how much things need to change for the better, Kitty agreed to lead the X-Men as long as Storm remained on the team.  She relocated the mansion from Limbo to Central Park in New York, so the X-Men could refocus on being part of the world as heroes instead of constantly worrying about their own survival.  Under Kitty's new leadership, she also renamed the mansion as The Xavier Institute for Mutant Education and Outreach.

First DEADPOOL 2 Trailer Teases Josh Brolin as Cable

Cable and Deadpool, together at last.

20th Century Fox has released the first teaser trailer for the still-untitled Deadpool sequel, starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool/Wade Wilson and Josh Brolin as Cable/Nathan Summers.

The two-minute trailer opens in dramatic fashion with Cable's left cybernetic eye opening and glowing.  "I was born into war," Cable says in a voiceover as we see him gearing up for battle, possibly in the future.  "Bred into it.  People think they understand pain, but they have no concept of it.  What's the most pain you've ever felt?  Maybe the kind that leaves you more machine than man."

Suddenly, Deadpool interrupts the trailer after noticing that Cable's left cybernetic arm is unfinished.  "Wait!  No, stop!" he interjects, pressing pause on the trailer and showing a close-up of Josh Brolin's green sleeve to be replaced with CGI.  "What in the actual ass?!  Dale!  Why, why, why are the visual effects not done?  It's a metal arm!  It's not like we're trying to remove a mustache!  Ah, fuck it -- I'll do it myself..."

We cut to a homemade city replica comprised of colorful construction paper houses, miniature Hot Wheels cars, and plastic green army men.  Deadpool brings Cable's action figure down into the city street and pretends to be Cable, saying gruffly "I'm Cable, and I'm from the future, and I like blowin' shit up."

Deadpool then brings in a Deadpool action figure, dressed as Sheriff Woody from the Toy Story movies.  "Reach for the sky!" exclaims the Deadpool figure, quoting Woody's catch phrase.

"Oh, no!  Sheriff Deadpool!" exclaims the Cable figure.

"You know, you're a lot taller in--"

"Shut up, you little asshole!  Take this!"  The Cable figure abruptly attacks the Deadpool figure, knocking him over.

"Regeneration powers, activate!" exclaims the Deadpool figure.

"That's not something you say!" replies the Cable figure.

"Zip it, Cable!  I got the stones to help you."

"NOOOOOO!" replies the Cable figure as Deadpool places the Deadpool figure's crotch against the Cable figure's mouth, teabagging him.

"No biting," says the Deadpool figure.

The trailer resumes with completed CGI effects, with Cable facing off against a squad of men in riot gear with shields emblazoned with the letters "DMC" (Department of Mutant Correction, perhaps?)

Various fleeting images follow, including Domino (Zazie Beetz), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Cable leaping over a DMC transport truck, Deadpool and Domino exiting the rear of a military aircraft with what appears to be Bishop and Shatterstar, Deadpool and the cabbie Dopinder, Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin), and Weasel (T.J. Miller).

In the trailer's final scene, Deadpool and Blind Al (Leslie Uggams) are shown aiming their weapons at Cable, although Deadpool needs to adjust Blind Al's arm so that she's pointing at their target.  "Your time's up, you dumb fuck," remarks Cable.

"Well," sighs Deadpool, turning to the camera.  "That's just lazy writing."

If you'd like to check out the trailer, you can view it below thanks to the official 20th Century Fox account on YouTube...

Deadpool 2 is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 18, 2018.

The acquisition price implies a total equity value of approximately $52.4 billion and a total transaction value of approximately $66.1 billion (in each case based on the stated exchange ratio assuming no adjustment) for the business to be acquired by Disney, which includes consolidated assets along with a number of equity investments.

Popular Entertainment Properties to Join Disney Family

Combining with Disney are 21st Century Fox’s critically acclaimed film production businesses, including Twentieth Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures and Fox 2000, which together offer diverse and compelling storytelling businesses and are the homes of Avatar, X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool, as well as The Grand Budapest Hotel, Hidden Figures, Gone Girl, The Shape of Water and The Martian—and its storied television creative units, Twentieth Century Fox Television, FX Productions and Fox21, which have brought The Americans, This Is Us, Modern Family, The Simpsons and so many more hit TV series to viewers across the globe. Disney will also acquire FX Networks, National Geographic Partners, Fox Sports Regional Networks, Fox Networks Group International, Star India and Fox’s interests in Hulu, Sky plc, Tata Sky and Endemol Shine Group.

“The acquisition of this stellar collection of businesses from 21st Century Fox reflects the increasing consumer demand for a rich diversity of entertainment experiences that are more compelling, accessible and convenient than ever before,” said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company. “We’re honored and grateful that Rupert Murdoch has entrusted us with the future of businesses he spent a lifetime building, and we’re excited about this extraordinary opportunity to significantly increase our portfolio of well-loved franchises and branded content to greatly enhance our growing direct-to-consumer offerings. The deal will also substantially expand our international reach, allowing us to offer world-class storytelling and innovative distribution platforms to more consumers in key markets around the world.”

“We are extremely proud of all that we have built at 21st Century Fox, and I firmly believe that this combination with Disney will unlock even more value for shareholders as the new Disney continues to set the pace in what is an exciting and dynamic industry,” said Rupert Murdoch, Executive Chairman of 21st Century Fox. “Furthermore, I’m convinced that this combination, under Bob Iger’s leadership, will be one of the greatest companies in the world. I’m grateful and encouraged that Bob has agreed to stay on, and is committed to succeeding with a combined team that is second to none.”

At the request of both 21st Century Fox and the Disney Board of Directors, Mr. Iger has agreed to continue as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company through the end of calendar year 2021.

“When considering this strategic acquisition, it was important to the Board that Bob remain as Chairman and CEO through 2021 to provide the vision and proven leadership required to successfully complete and integrate such a massive, complex undertaking,” said Orin C. Smith, Lead Independent Director of the Disney Board. “We share the belief of our counterparts at 21st Century Fox that extending his tenure is in the best interests of our company and our shareholders, and will be critical to Disney’s ability to effectively drive long-term value from this extraordinary acquisition.”

Benefits to Consumers

The acquisition will enable Disney to accelerate its use of innovative technologies, including its BAMTECH platform, to create more ways for its storytellers to entertain and connect directly with audiences while providing more choices for how they consume content. The complementary offerings of each company enhance Disney’s development of films, television programming and related products to provide consumers with a more enjoyable and immersive entertainment experience.

Bringing on board 21st Century Fox’s entertainment content and capabilities, along with its broad international footprint and a world-class team of managers and storytellers, will allow Disney to further its efforts to provide a more compelling entertainment experience through its direct-to-consumer (DTC) offerings. This transaction will enable Disney’s recently announced Disney and ESPN-branded DTC offerings, as well as Hulu, to create more appealing and engaging experiences, delivering content, entertainment and sports to consumers around the world wherever and however they want to enjoy it.

The agreement also provides Disney with the opportunity to reunite the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool with the Marvel family under one roof and create richer, more complex worlds of inter-related characters and stories that audiences have shown they love. The addition of Avatar to its family of films also promises expanded opportunities for consumers to watch and experience storytelling within these extraordinary fantasy worlds. Already, guests at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort can experience the magic of Pandora—The World of Avatar, a new land inspired by the Fox film franchise that opened earlier this year. And through the incredible storytelling of National Geographic—whose mission is to explore and protect our planet and inspire new generations through education initiatives and resources—Disney will be able to offer more ways than ever before to bring kids and families the world and all that is in it.

Fox Developing X-Men's MULTIPLE MAN with James Franco

Multiple Man, Multiple Man, doing the things that a multiple can...

Deadline has revealed that Fox is developing a film based on the Marvel Comics mutant superhero Multiple Man, with James Franco starring in the title role.

According to the article, Wonder Woman scribe Allan Heinberg will write the script.  Simon Kinberg and his Genre Films will produce along with Franco and Ramona Films, which Franco runs with brother Dave Franco and Vincent Jolivette.

Franco, 39, is best known for the film 127 Hours and as Harry Osborn in the movies Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3.  His other films include Alien: Covenant, Why Him?, Sausage Party, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Oz the Great and Powerful, This is the End, Milk, Flyboys, Tristan & Isolde, and Never Been Kissed.  He's also appeared in various episodes of the television series The X-Files, Freaks and Geeks, General Hospital, 11.22.63, and 30 Rock.

Created in 1975 by Len Wein, Chris Claremont and John Buscema, Multiple Man first appeared in Giant-Size Fantastic Four #4 as James "Jamie" Madrox, who was born to a family living near the Los Alamos research facility in New Mexico.  The background radiation presumably caused his mutation at birth, when the doctor's slap caused him to multiply into two identical babies.  Professor Charles Xavier, a friend of the Madrox family, suggested that they move to Kansas to raise the boy in privacy.  Dr. Daniel Madrox, Jamie's father, created a suit for him to wear which was designed to absorb kinetic energy, the source of the duplication.  When Jamie was fifteen years old, his parents were killed by a tornado alleged to have been caused by Damian Tryp, and Jamie began to run the family farm by himself along with his duplicates, or "dupes", until his suit was damaged.

Jamie went to New York City for help where he met Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic Four, who contacted Professor Xavier for assistance.  Xavier sent Jamie to Muir Island to work with Moira MacTaggert in her laboratory and help her with mutant research.  He soon helped Moira and fellow mutants Havok and Polaris in searching for the escaped mutant Proteus. Proteus hijacked one of Madrox's duplicates as his own body, although this did not harm Jamie.  Following the X-Men's battle with Proteus on Muir Island, Madrox was invited to join the X-Men, but he declined.  One of Jamie's renegade duplicates later searched with Siryn for the runaway New Mutants Sunspot and Warlock.  Siryn and Jamie briefly joined the mutant group known as the Fallen Angels.

Jamie was one of the residents of Muir Island who fell under the mental control of the Shadow King.  Following the destruction of Muir Island and the defeat of the Shadow King, Madroz became a member of the second incarnation of the X-Factor team, which was assembled by Val Cooper as a U.S. government response team.  Here, he developed a reputation as a prankster, forming a friendship with teammate Strong Guy.  Also on the team was former New Mutant Wolfsbane, who later joined his X-Factor Investigations.  During this time, Jamie and Siryn had sex, with Siryn becoming pregnant as a result.  Siryn gave birth to a boy named Sean, after her own father.  Just hours after Sean's birth, however, he was absorbed into Jamie's body as Jamie held the boy, completely against Jamie's will.  Jamie realized that the baby must have been fathered by a dupe rather than by him, and that "the offspring of a dupe isn't really anything more than a dupe".

Jamie eventually fell in love with another X-Factor teammate, Layla Miller, with the two later marrying in Las Vegas.  During the Death of X storyline, however, Jamie transmitted a message to Cyclops and his X-Men requesting aid.  Arriving on Muir Island, where Jamie  had been stationed on his own, the X-Men found him dying after succumbing to the Terrigen Mist cloud that had affected him.  Because of his death, the X-Men realized how dangerous the Terrigen Mists are to mutants.

Franco will be the second actor to portray Multiple Man in live action, after Eric Dane in the movie X-Men: The Last Stand.  The character has also appeared in various animated projects, including X-Men, X-Men: Evolution (voiced by David A. Kaye) and Wolverine and the X-Men (voiced by Crispin Freeman).

First THE NEW MUTANTS Trailer Brings Horror to X-Men Films

An X-Men movie as a horror film.

That's the premise for the first trailer for The New Mutants, the upcoming film from director Josh Boone, based on the Marvel Comics mutant superteam.  20th Century Fox released the two-minute trailer late last night, giving us our first good look at the new addition to X-Men movie franchise.

The trailer opens with inside a creepy secret facility, with Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga) speaking to Mirage/Danielle Moonstar (Blu Hunt).  "I'm going to ask you a series of questions," begins Reyes as the camera slowly moves down a corridor.  "I want you to respond truthfully.  Have you ever hurt someone?"

"Yes," replies Danielle softly, as we see a cemetery with graves only marked with crosses and numbers in the hundreds.

We hear a chorus singing "We don't need no education" from the Pink Floyd song "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)", as we see Danielle sitting in a chair with some sort of electrode attached to the temple of her forehead.  "Have you ever experienced anything you consider...abnormal?" asks Reyes.

"Yes," answers Danielle, as we get a shot of Reyes watching a series of security cam monitors.  "Last question," says Reyes.  "Do you know what mutants are?"

We don't hear Danielle's answer to the third question, but instead switch to a scene where Reyes is drawing a blood sample from Danielle.  "Did you know baby rattlesnakes are more dangerous than adult ones?" asks Reyes.  "They haven't learned how to control how much venom they secrete."

We see fleeting glimpses of the other New Mutants, Magik/Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor-Joy), Sunspot/Roberto da Costa (Henry Zaga), Wolfsbane/Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams), and Cannonball/Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton).  Reyes remarks, "All of you are dangerous.  That's why you're here."

Inside the facility's laundry room, Sam sees a washing machine jostling without being turned on.  He goes to look through the darkened machine window, but the inside of the machine suddenly ignites with fire as a hand of someone palms the window.

Next, we see an image of Reyes with the sides of her face clawed by something.  Danielle wakes up in a room, fingers a drop of blood and asks "What is this place?" as a face suddenly emerges from the wall beside her.

"This isn't a hospital, it's a haunted house!" says a male voice, as we see Illyana and Sam standing in a doorway looking stunned at a bald figure in black wearing a large white smiley-face mask.  The figure rips off the mask and Illyana screams in terror.

Illyana and Sam take off running down the corridor, and we see fleeting images of what appears to be Illyana as a little girl waking up in her bed, Sam working in a coal mine in Kentucky, Reyes forcibly injecting something into Illyana's neck, and Rahne screaming in terror at something inside the women's shower room.

"You've been through a lot," says Reyes in the trailer's final scene.  "Get some rest."  This is immediately followed by a shot of Danielle with some sort of breathing apparatus strapped over her mouth and screaming in terror.

If you'd like to check out the trailer, you can view it below thanks to the official 20th Century Fox UK account on YouTube...

The New Mutants is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 13, 2018.

Wizard World Columbus 2017: Day Two Photos

As expected, Wizard World Comic Con Columbus 2017 was all kinds of busy on Saturday at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, with David Tennant, Catherine Tate, John Barrowman, Elizabeth Henstridge, Emma Caulfield, Nicholas Brendon, and a few others signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans.

Even with a pretty slim selection of comic book dealers and very few big name comic book creators, Saturday's attendance was all kinds of heavy.  I did some hardcover collection shopping, picked up a hell of a bargain on a great copy of The Flash (vol.1) #145 (Just $27!!!), and of course, got more great cosplay photos.

Here are some of my photos from Day Two...

Aquaman from the DC Extended Universe.  I can dig it.

David Tennant tells an anecdote of how he can run faster than John Barrowman

The Thirteenth Doctor is here and it's about time!

John Barrowman quips "I have to say, I prefer things that are bigger on the inside."

Unfortunately, once again, there's not enough comic dealers or celebrity guests to justify attending Day Three this year, but if you'd like to see more pics from Wizard World Columbus, I've set up an album on my Facebook page HERE.  See you next year!
