Deadpool Team Up

Who is worthy to be annoyed by the Merc with a Mouth?

by Phil Perich for the Capes and Lunatics Blog

With the Disney/21st Century Fox merger close to being a done deal, I started to imagine all the team ups that could happen between characters.  The one that kept popping into my mind was Deadpool.  Will this R rated superstar be able to annoy not just the X-Men, but the Fantastic Four and all of the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Disney has been developing over the last few years?  The Capes and Lunatics Podcast features a show called Wade’s World where my cohost Lilith Hellfire and I discuss all things Deadpool and any random nonsense that pops into our heads (much like Deadpool), and we would love to have more content to dissect and review.

Spider-Man

Many people wanted to see these two sarcastic characters team up for years and Marvel Comics answered them with the Spider-Man/Deadpool monthly book.  While both characters wear full face masks and red costumes, Spider-Man’s sense of humor is definitely more family friendly.  While the current Marvel Comics version of Spider-Man is an adult that can keep up with Deadpool’s twisted thoughts, the MCU version is still a teenager which might make their interactions very weird and probably uncomfortably inappropriate.

Thor

While a theoretical Deadpool/Thor team up might seem out of place and train wreck waiting to happen, think about it.  Take the fun and humor we got in the Thor: Ragnarok movie and crank it up even more with the over the top funny and fourth wall breaking of one Mister Wade Wilson!  Plus the encounter I would really love to see in that movie would be Deadpool and Loki.  Imagine merc with a mouth versus god of lies and mischief.  Loki even messed with Deadpool in his own comic around the turn of the century and tried to convince Wade that he was his father.  It turned out to be a lie but I think Deadpool needs to storm the home of wherever the Asgardians end up.

Captain America/Wolverine

If you really wanted to drop Deadpool into the middle of the MCU and shock and astonish fans, you could always team him up with the one character who is probably the complete opposite of everything he stands for, Steve Rogers aka Captain America.  Remember the scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron where Cap tells someone to watch their language?  Now just picture him trying unsuccessfully to tell Deadpool that instead of the Avengers.  And that would only be the first two minutes of the movie.  And if you really wanted to blend the MCU/FOX worlds together, add Wolverine into the mix.  Maybe Cap discovers and investigates a super secret organization called Weapon X…

Iron Man

Besides Spider-Man, especially in the MCU, I think Deadpool would ALMOST find his match in sarcasm and debauchery in the form of Tony Stark.  Remember in the first Iron Man movie when the soldiers were asking Tony about his conquests with Sports Illustrated swimsuit models?  Those questions would seem very tame compared to what Deadpool could and would ask.  And forget the mayhem Wade would cause if he got his hands on a suit of Iron Man armor.  But you know Deadpool would crack some sort of joke about his nickname being “War Machine” whether he was in armor or not.

Black Widow/Hawkeye

And if you want to go for a straight up action/suspense/Spy thriller, create a movie that tells the story of Deadpool racing to steal some mysterious maguffin or attempting to assassinate someone.  So Shield has to send in their best two agents, Black Widow and Hawkeye.  Besides attempting to accomplish his mission, Deadpool would split the rest of his time in the movie trying to kill Hakweye so he wouldn’t interfere with Wade’s goal and also Wade trying to get Widow out of her skin tight outfit.

The Punisher

I know Frank Castle is part of Marvel’s Netflix TV universe, but I would love to see the Punisher in the movies or for Deadpool to travel to Netflix.  You know with the Punisher there would be no debate, no jokes.  Frank would (try to) kill Wade and there would be hesitation or stay of execution.  You think Deadpool annoys characters now?  Imagine one of the world’s greatest killers unable to kill Deadpool or even get him to shut up!  You love a good shoot em up bloodbath spectacle?  This would be the ultimate one!

So which characters would YOU like to see Deadpool interact with on the big screen?  Let me know, I love a good discussion, especially about Deadpool!
